38th Metro Manila Film Festival | Film Entries

It's that time of the year again when we will celebrate Pinoy talents and creativity in film making. Or will we really?

Almost every year, you'd expect a "Panday", a "Shake Rattle and Roll" and an "Enteng Kabisote" and true enough, that's what we get. Seeing the 8 MMFF film entries this year makes you say, "Not again!".

All along I wondered what the real purpose of this festival: is it to showcase Filipino's creativity where the winner can be a great contender as one of the Best Foreign Films in the Oscars? or is this a festival to get money. Even how much we deny it, the latter is what's happening.

Nevertheless, I'd still have high hopes on some other films. I mean we have a Nora Aunor's "El Presidente" and Kris Aquino's and Vice Ganda's "Sisteraka". Hopefully the good ones can outweigh the traditional ones.

Furthermore I expected a Coco Martin film given he's one of the best actors of this generation but now he doesn't. Probably because he's not yet too bankable.
